What was the Treaty of Cateau-Cambrésis?
The Treaty of Cateau-Cambrésis ended the war in 1559 and gave Elizabeth some security. Mary I had been married to King Philip II of Spain, who dragged England into war against France. When Elizabeth took the throne she was very anxious for peace.
Why was the Treaty of Cateau-Cambrésis needed?
Mary I was married to the King of Spain. England joined the war between Spain and France, supporting King Philip II of Spain.
