• ❖ Hardwick Hall was designed for appearance rather than security. It has been described as having more window than wall.
• ❖ Its 46 rooms demonstrate the wealth of the owner.
• ❖ At the top of the house, on the turrets, are the letters 'E' and 'S'. These stand for Elizabeth of Shrewsbury and were a display of Bess of Hardwick's wealth.
