Roe v Wade, 1973

What was Roe v Wade?
Roe v Wade was a case before the Supreme Court, where lawyers successfully argued that a 21-year-old woman had the right to an abortion. The Supreme Court ruled all women had the right to safe and legal abortions.
Who was opposed to Roe v Wade?
There was, and continues to be, huge opposition to Roe v Wade. The 2 main forms are:
  • Many states which had previously banned abortion tried to make it very difficult for women to have access to the procedure.
  • The National Right to Life Committee formed with the goal of reversing the Roe v Wade decision.
