What Are Right-Wing Views?

What are right-wing views?
Political parties that are described as 'right-wing' often do not want change as they believe in traditional values. They favour capitalism so accept a greater divide between the rich and the poor. Right-wing views can be divided into moderate conservative views or extreme right-wing with fascist views.
What are the views of moderate right-wing parties?
There are 4 main beliefs that moderate right-wing or conservative political parties hold:
  • Economically, they believe in capitalism and the private ownership of property, business and land. Taxes should be low.
  • They tend to want political power to be in the hands of the upper classes.
  • They want to keep society as it is and do not favour rapid change. They believe in more traditional family values and law and order.
  • They believe in international competition in terms of trade and that their nation takes priority over others.
What are the views of extreme right-wing parties?
There are 5 main beliefs that extreme right-wing or fascist parties hold:
  • Economically, they favour private ownership of business, property and land. However, the economy should be controlled to benefit the nation to make it strong.
  • Politically, they want a strong centralised or authoritarian government often with one leader in the form of a dictator.
  • Socially, they prefer traditional family values and law and order. They restrict people's freedoms and rights.
  • The interests of the nation are greater than those of the individual.
  • They are very nationalistic and often want to expand how much territory their country controls.
