What was the Peel Commission?
The Peel Commission in 1937 was an inquiry by the British government into the causes of the Arab Revolt in 1936.
What did the Peel Commission find?
The Peel Commission decided the following factors had led to the revolt:
  • The Arabs wanted independence and feared becoming a minority in Palestine, dominated by the Jews.
  • The British government treated Jews more favourably than it did Arabs.
  • Mass Jewish immigration.
  • The sale of land by Arabs to Jews.
What did the Peel Commission recommend?
The Peel Commission recommended that Palestine should be partitioned into Jewish and Arab states.
