The Newport Rising was a rebellion led by John Frost and physical force Chartists which led to 22 demonstrators being killed.
When was the Newport Rising?
The Newport Rising was on the 4th November, 1839.
What caused the Newport Rising?
The rising began when around 10,000 Chartists marched on the town of Newport. They aimed to free Chartists who they thought were imprisoned at the Westgate Hotel. Soldiers were defending the hotel and a battle broke out.
