What did the Nazis do to the economy?
The Nazis - first under Schacht, and then under Goering - aimed to change to economy to be self-sufficient. This was the policy of 'Autarky'. The idea was that, when war broke out, Germany would not suffer as it had from naval blockades in the First World War.
Who was the Nazi minister for the economy?
Schacht was Nazi Economic Minister from 1933 to 1936, when he was sacked. He was replaced by Goering, who implemented his Four Year Plan.
What was the Nazis' Four Year Plan for the economy?
The Four Year Plan was to make Germany completely self-sufficient by 1940, with increased weapons production creating jobs in steel factories, and with industries working to create synthetic versions of materials that Germany could not produce herself.
What happened to the Nazi economy under Schacht?
Schacht worked to increase trade with other nations, such as those in South America and Southern Europe. He wanted to trade their raw materials for German made goods. This would increase production and stimulate the economy, alongside the Nazis' job creation schemes.
