Who were the mountain men?
Mountain men were hunters and trappers, who caught animals in the Rocky Mountains.
When did the mountain men go west?
They were the first pioneers to go west, from the early part of the nineteenth century.
What did the mountain men hunt?
They hunted animals for fur, such as deer, elk, beaver, and buffalo.
What was life like for the mountain men?
They had a solitary life, but met every year at rendezvous points to trade their furs.
Why were the mountain men important?
They created the first trails that other settlers later used to move west. Sometimes, people paid them to lead them safely over the mountains.
