• ❖ He investigated the Lena Goldfield Massacre of 1912.
• ❖ He was elected as a member of the fourth Duma as a delegate from the Trudovik Party. This was a party formed when some members of the Socialist Revolutionary Party broke away because of the Party's decision to not take part in the first Duma.
• ❖ He was appointed vice-chairman of the Petrograd Soviet.
• ❖ He was made the Minister of War in May 1917, and organised the failed June Offensive against Germany and Austria, which led to the July Days unrest.
• ❖ He appointed General Kornilov as the commander-in-chief of the Russian Army and had to use the Bolsheviks to stop General Kornilov's attempted revolt in July 1917.
• ❖ He became the leader of the Provisional Government in July 1917.
• ❖ He failed to stop the Bolsheviks from overthrowing the Provisional Government in October 1917.
