What were ghettos?
Ghettos were walled-off areas in Polish cities, into which all Jews were forced to move.
What was it like in the ghettos?
The ghettos were overcrowded, disease was common, and food was restricted, so starvation was common. Between January 1941 and July 1942 approximately 4,000 Jews died every month in the ghettos.
When were Jews transported from the ghettos to concentration camps?
When the 'Final Solution' was introduced in January 1942, over a quarter of a million Jews were transported from the ghettos to camps in eastern Poland, where most died.
