The Dockers' Strike was held by dock workers in 1889.
What were the aims of the Dockers' Strike?
They wanted to improve their working conditions and pay. They called for a dockers' tanner, which was a rate of sixpence an hour.
What methods did they use in the Dockers' Strike?
They went on strike and marched through London. They also carried rotten vegetables, to show what their families were living on, and picketed the gates of the London docks.
What was the result of the Dockers' Strike?
The employers agreed to the pay rise and guaranteed the dockers would have at least four hours of work a day.
