Cow Towns

What was a cow town?
Cow towns (or cattle towns) were towns that grew up around the transcontinental railroad. They were a hub for transporting cattle on the railway to the markets of the east.
Why were the cow towns considered lawless?
Cowboys were paid their wages after loading the cattle onto the trains. They then celebrated, and this could lead to trouble.
